Unbelievable; this winter weather just keeps on coming.
When my daughter Kate became engaged and planning got under way, I secretly wished she would consider a winter wedding.
The Holidays give New Englanders a wonderful distraction to help pass the first two months of what could be a very long winter. It is becoming tradition for the men of the house to begin stringing the outdoor Christmas lights, while Mom makes turkey soup with leftovers from the Thanksgiving feast. We hold on to those outdoor lights and wreaths until well into February.
I have always loved the red of the poinsettia and the complimentary silver and gold that accents the Christmas ornaments. I could envision a wedding, staged with just that backdrop being absolutely beautiful. Katie was married July 8th.
Then I met Kim Francis (via Facebook, but I feel like we have been friends forever.) Kim and her daughter Whitney created the wedding of my dreams. You’ve seen their wedding pictures under “Just Married.” Whitney’s wedding was Holiday Elegant. And…I do have one more daughter…
Wake up Maureen!
Today’s Headline:
Northeast snowstorm: School Closings, Flight Delays, RI, CT, MA, NY, NJ
Snow, sleet and freezing rain is on the way for New England in the form of a dangerous winter storm. The National Weather Service has a winter storm warning in effect from 6 AM Tuesday through 1 AM Thursday.
The pending blizzard will cover about 2,100 miles of the U.S.; that’s one-third of the country.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could pick the weather for our daughter’s wedding day, like we choose a wedding venue? “I’d like a 75 degree day, with a bright blue sky…no clouds please…and a warm bright sun.” No amount of money or planning can guarantee the weather.
Reality check: I do not have a strong enough personality to host a home based wedding reception or a winter wedding. I would worry about the weather during the entire engagement. Nicole…you’re safe. When you find your prince, I will not push for a winter wedding.
